{"id":644,"date":"2013-02-21T12:42:43","date_gmt":"2013-02-21T19:42:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wayupnorth.ca\/blog\/?p=644"},"modified":"2013-02-21T12:42:43","modified_gmt":"2013-02-21T19:42:43","slug":"digital-apocalypse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wayupnorth.ca\/blog\/2013\/02\/21\/digital-apocalypse\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Apocalypse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jim Groom <del>opened<\/del> <strong>kicked down<\/strong> a door at the end of 2010.\u00a0 <a title=\"storytelling like you've never imagined it\" href=\"http:\/\/ds106.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">DS106<\/a> was the <em><a title=\"link to Greek meaning of &quot;apokalupsis&quot;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/lexicons\/greek\/nas\/apokalupsis.html\" target=\"_blank\">apo kalupsis<\/a><\/em> which tore away the veil that had concealed the sumptuously rich, and often darkly funny nature of digital storytelling from my perception.\u00a0 Prior to yanking the covering from my eyes, video documentary was all I could imagine when I heard the term.\u00a0 Lost as I was amid the &#8217;80&#8217;s pop-culture references in the course, and even though I had to drop active participation after a few weeks, I still caught the ds106 virus badly enough to forever inoculate me against any concept of boundaries to digital stories.<\/p>\n<p>Enter <a title=\"etmooc home page\" href=\"http:\/\/etmooc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">etmooc 2013<\/a> with a second chance.\u00a0 To my great dismay, the weeks of Digital Storytelling with luminaries <a title=\"Bava blog\" href=\"http:\/\/bavatuesdays.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Groom<\/a> and <a title=\"biking dog-lover's blog\" href=\"http:\/\/cogdogblog.com\/\">Alan Levine<\/a> conflicted with my College&#8217;s in-service, and once again I&#8217;m struggling to just skim a little cream off the minimal interaction I can afford.\u00a0 Here are a couple of new ventures for me.<\/p>\n<p>When I stumbled upon <a title=\"@shareski's story\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/GsELorPPRJE\" target=\"_blank\">Dean Shareski&#8217;s &#8220;My Amazing Story of Connectedness&#8221;<\/a> in a\u00a0 <a title=\"more stories of connectedness\" href=\"http:\/\/storify.com\/verenanz\/day-2-connecting-in-an-open-classroom \" target=\"_blank\">tweet to @cogdog (Alan Levine)<\/a>, I surrendered to the urge to do one of my own &#8211; although I failed miserably at the challenge to complete it in 5 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6bzYIlkG7PI?rel=0\" height=\"360\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I kept hearing references to <a title=\"Storify home page\" href=\"http:\/\/storify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Storify<\/a>, so decided to give it a whirl to document my twitter goof-ups. (<a title=\"etmooc facilitator Alison Seaman on twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlisonSeaman\" target=\"_blank\">@AlisonSeaman<\/a> suggested it&#8217;s also a <a title=\"six-word stories tweeted\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sixwordstories\" target=\"_blank\">six-word story<\/a>: twitter learning, premature send, missed tags.)
