{"id":634,"date":"2013-01-21T02:15:46","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T09:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wayupnorth.ca\/blog\/?p=634"},"modified":"2013-01-21T02:15:46","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T09:15:46","slug":"ante-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wayupnorth.ca\/blog\/2013\/01\/21\/ante-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Ante Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This connectivism keeps messing with my time management aspirations.<br \/>\nProdded by Alec Couros&#8217; <a title=\"@courosa\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/courosa\/status\/292467035529682944\" target=\"_blank\">tweet<\/a> referencing Kevin Stranack&#8217;s &#8220;<a title=\"guerrilla connectivism\" href=\"http:\/\/stranack.ca\/2013\/01\/18\/guerrilla-connectivism-10-tips-for-taking-control-of-your-education\/\" target=\"_blank\">Guerrilla Connectivism<\/a>&#8220;, and inspired by Roy Beasley&#8217;s &#8220;<a title=\"confessions\" href=\"http:\/\/hbcu-levers.blogspot.ca\/2013\/01\/confessions-of-mooc-dropout.html\" target=\"_blank\">Confessions of a MOOC Dropout<\/a>&#8220;, I posted the following &#8220;Reply All&#8221; last evening in response to a college-wide email promoting Coursera&#8217;s <a title=\"Aboriginal Worldviews &amp; Education\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/course\/aboriginaled\" target=\"_blank\">Aboriginal Worldviews &amp; Education<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>&#8220;Would any Aurora College staff be interested in going through it together as a cohort? With our shared northern context, we could add value to our own learning by meeting for online or teleconference discussions and\/or discussion forums.\u00a0 Sort of build our own support structure around the free Coursera course.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Only 24 hours later, I have four takers from four different campuses! \u00a0And that&#8217;s just from the diehards who check work email on weekends.\u00a0 In the MOOC world where &#8220;massive&#8221; is measured in 3 to 6 figures, it&#8217;s a speck; in my world where two talking is a success, it&#8217;s overwhelming.\u00a0 Looks like it&#8217;s time to put my money where my mouth is (no wait &#8211; &#8220;invest my time where my typing fingers have made promises&#8221; ?? &#8211; more accurate, but just doesn&#8217;t have the same ring to it.)\u00a0 Once again, ideas from a MOOC launch me into an activity that takes away time I&#8217;d like to spend actively participating in the MOOC that launched me.\u00a0 This time I&#8217;ll blame\/credit #etmooc. \u00a0Well, I have wondered about all the hype\/trash-talk about xMOOCs.\u00a0 Guess I&#8217;ll see.\u00a0 Aboriginal Worldview is certainly a relevant topic for me.\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;ll even have time to blog it.<\/p>\n<p>Did I mention that our college President is second among the respondents?\u00a0 I wonder if the domain name &#8220;connectivistevangelist&#8221; is taken\u2026 or maybe &#8220;outonalimb&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This connectivism keeps messing with my time management aspirations.
